📖 Webber’s Web of Tricks: 2025 DST Spider Tips No One Shares
Unlike many characters, Webber has not received a skill tree in the recent Skill Spotlight updates. Community speculation suggests it might arrive in 2025-2026, potentially improving spider mechanics.
Minor patches in 2024 made Spider Dens trample-able by big creatures and prevented befriended spiders from targeting players' allies.
The From Beyond updates (2023-2024) added new mobs with Planar defense, posing challenges for Webber as his spiders deal normal damage and struggle against these planar-aligned enemies.
Webber is considered a monster, so spiders are neutral to him and can be befriended by feeding them meat. Each meat allies one spider; Webber can lead up to 3 spiders by default. After his refresh, spider followers no longer have a time-based loyalty timer – they follow indefinitely until they die or return to a den.
Webber grows a silk beard over 9 days that provides warmth and can be shaved for Silk. Shaving at full length yields 6 silk. Keep the beard through winter for insulation, then shave at the start of summer to avoid overheating.
Webber can safely eat Monster Meat and Monster Lasagna with no health or sanity penalty. Cook monster meat to extend spoilage time from 6 days to 15 days. Consider drying racks for Monster Jerky which also grants slight sanity.
As a monster, neutral mobs that hate spiders (Pigs, Bunnymen, Catcoons) will attack Webber on sight. He cannot befriend pigs or bunnies. Be cautious around Pig Villages – they'll mob Webber. Pig King will still trade with Webber normally.
Webber's max Sanity is only 100, making him very susceptible to Shadow Creatures. Craft a Top Hat (6 silk) as soon as possible for +3.3 sanity/min to offset evening sanity drain. Webber does not lose sanity from being near monsters (since he is one).
Avoid basing near Pig villages. Choose locations near spider-dense areas but not directly in dense spider nest clusters. Being near rocky biomes or deserts is useful for luring hounds into your spiders.
Use starting monster meat to befriend 1-2 spiders on day 1. Craft a Top Hat ASAP to buffer sanity. Rush a Science Machine for basic armor as Webber's low sanity can spawn shadows early.
Start a "spider civil war" for plenty of monster meat and silk by befriending spiders, attacking a neutral spider, then canceling to make your spiders fight the wild ones.
Craft the Den Decorating Set (1 Papyrus, 1 Silk, 2 Boards) to pacify spiders and halt den growth, and the Webby Whistle (3 Silk, 2 Twigs) to wake/rally spiders and control your army.
Updated Apr 2024. Buffs Webber for a more "reliable" experience by removing dusk/night sanity loss, increasing spider attraction, preventing spiders from eating important items, extending follower loyalty, and stopping sanity drain for teammates.
Fixes the issue of befriended spiders vanishing when Webber disconnects or travels between shards. Allows spiders to stay loyal through logouts/world transitions with options like auto-re-befriending on reconnect.
General DST mods like Geometric Placement are great for precisely building spider pens and walls. Combined Status can show your beard length, and Insight mod can display follower counts/durations.
Webber is a challenging but rewarding character, especially after his refresh. With smart spider farm setups, savvy use of his whistle and switcherdoodles, and teamwork considerations, Webber can control the map with an eight-legged legion. Just keep an eye on that sanity meter and remember: have fun, and don't make TOO many spiders!
