📖 Wigfrid’s Meat & Slay: Battle Tactics for DST Survivors

Prioritize meat foods. Early on, cook Meatballs (1 meat, 3 berries), later Bacon and Eggs (add monster meat + eggs). Jerky is your best friend – make drying racks and stockpile jerky for a steady source of health, hunger, and sanity in one item. It lasts long and fills you up nicely – perfect for Wigfrid's nomadic hunting lifestyle.

Wigfrid's Inspiration drains outside combat, so top it off right before a boss or raid. An easy trick: use a Blow Dart on a boss from afar – that one hit on a "boss" yields triple inspiration gain, often instantly giving you enough for an opening song. Also, if you have downtime mid-fight, smack any minions or even let the boss hit you a couple times to regain inspiration – Wigfrid gains inspiration from taking damage too.

As Wigfrid, there's no reason not to wear at least a Football Helmet at all times. You spawn with one of the best helmets, so use it. Craft spares and keep in chests. Your 25% resist + a helmet's 80% stack multiplicatively (effective ~85% reduction), making you absurdly hardy. Abuse that – you can face-tank things others would flee from, but don't get cocky without a helmet.

Remember Wigfrid's Battle Spear is cheap but strong – however if you get a Tentacle Spike early (from marshes), that's 51 damage base (~63 for Wigfrid). It has fewer uses (100) but can serve as a higher DPS weapon in early game. Similarly, Ham Bat is great for her since durability isn't an issue (just freshness) and it does high damage especially when fresh.

Wigfrid's self-heal on hit means fighting restores sanity and health – counterintuitive in a survival game, but with her it works. If you're low on sanity, go smack some spiders or beardlords. Low on health? Find a bunch of weak mobs and leech off them. Even attacking Beefalo (carefully) can heal you. Combat is Wigfrid's medicine – seek it out when your stats are low.

Wigfrid can heal others indirectly. If a teammate is low but no one has healing food, have that player hit Wigfrid (PvP on) while Wigfrid wears armor and runs Heartrending Ballad. Each hit they land on you will heal them via the song! Alternatively, have both of you attack a common enemy with Ballad active.

With Clear Minded Cadenza up, a group of players can farm sanity infinitely by hitting something like a fossil spike (unassembled skeleton) which doesn't break easily. Some servers build a "Wigfrid sanity station" with a few caged spiders – go in, trigger spiders, let Wigfrid tank and hit them with the sanity song active, boom everyone's sane again.

If multiple players die, decide whether to use Warrior's Reprise (Encore) or conventional revives. Reprise will revive all ghosts around you, which is amazing, but it costs 16 inspiration and consumes the crafted song item. If you have enough inspiration and the dead are clustered, do it – you save max health penalties and time.

If you want to enjoy the rider build, tame a Beefalo focusing on Ornery tendencies (for damage bonus). Equip the Battle Saddle from Wigfrid's skills for extra beefalo speed. Use Weaponized Warble – it affects beefalo horn usage too. Wigfrid on an Ornery beefalo with warble song can fight most bosses without being bucked and with less worry about beefalo health.

Wigfrid can do both, but often semi-tanking yields best results. For example, against Clockwork Knights, instead of a perfect kite pattern, Wigfrid can trade hits: let it hit your armor once, then you smack it 4 times, and you've healed off the damage in the process. This "strategic face-tank" speeds up fights. Just always monitor your armor durability!

Fun fact – Maxwell's shadow duelists benefit from Wigfrid's songs too. If a Maxwell friend has duelists out, your Battle Ballads will heal those shadows and boost their sanity. This makes Wigfrid+Maxwell combo very potent, essentially bringing an army with buffs.

After ~7.5 seconds out of combat, Wigfrid's inspiration will start to drop 2% per second. Between waves of a fight, either keep hitting something or be ready to recast songs if your inspiration falls below thresholds. Also note, Inspiration gain is higher when your meter is emptier – so it's efficient to let it empty after fights and refill when needed.
